Acupuncture, Chinese herbs, massage, energetics (i.e. Taiji), and dietary counseling all reside under the umbrella of the comprehensive health care system known as Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).

Particularly since it is still relatively new by Western standards, the world of Chinese medicine and acupuncture is exciting and full of possibilities.  Despite being the bedrock of health care in China for thousands of years, the benefits of TCM remain largely untapped by Americans. Of the various modalities of TCM, acupuncture is perhaps the most familiar outside of Asia.

The incorporation of acupuncture is beginning to penetrate the Western institutions and for good reasons. It is effective in assisting the body’s effort to rebalance irregularities. Acupuncture assists in regulating both mild and extreme conditions, whether chronic and acute.

Furthermore, adverse effects are inherently rare with properly applied acupuncture since treatment relies on the body’s own biochemistry to effect change.

If all these health reasons were not excellent enough for the medical institutions to adopt acupuncture into their daily practice, the clinic equipment costs are generally economical.

While the cost of equipping a clinic may be relatively low, the greatest values to be found via acupuncture are the professional health care practitioners who have made a commitment to help deliver thousands of years of Chinese medical experience into the American health care system.

Founded on Taoist philosophy and principles developed in ancient China, many of the concepts used by an acupuncturist and attitudes towards patients are independent from the fast-pace of the modern world.

If you consider these realities for a moment, you may realize that acupuncture is precisely what the doctor has ordered.
